To tie-in with the landmark success of Kathryn Bigelow at this year’s Oscars, The Times newspaper has included several Directors UK members in a list of their top 10 women in the television industry. The list, which also features six women writers, names four female directors and gives an honourable mention to three more (Aisling Walsh, Samantha Morton and Lisa Gornick). Directors UK Board member Susanna White is compared to Oscar winner Bigelow for her work on the acclaimed HBO series Generation Kill, and is also praised for her work in documentary and British dramas such as Bleak House. Coky Giedroyc’s work on critically-admired dramas such as Wuthering Heights, Blackpool and Fear of Fanny see her included, whilst Dearblah Walsh is commended for creating Little Dorrit, Funland and other such esteemed programmes. Finally, Hettie Macdonald, director of White Girl, Wallander and “what many consider the greatest episode” of the rejuvenated Doctor Who, “Blink”, also makes the list. Directors UK would like to congratulate all these directors mentioned in the article. To read more, click here. |
