Some of the stand-out shows from the last twelve months will battle it out for awards later this March, as the Broadcasting Press Guild has announced its nominations for the 36th annual ceremony. In Single Drama, A Short Stay in Switzerland is up against Enid and Five Minutes of Heaven in what looks to be a tough category, whilst in Best Drama Series Being Human, Occupation, Red Riding and The Street compete in an equally strong list. Best Single Documentary/Factual Programme will see the Oscar-winning Man on Wire do battle against two moving productions in the form of 9/11: Phone Calls from the Towers and Dispatches: Terror in Mumbai, and in the Best Documentary/Factual Series, Andrew Marr’s Making of Modern Britain, Iran and the West and Life are all recognised for their quality. The Choir: Unsung Town, Come Dine with Me, Inside Nature’s Giants and Who Do You Think You Are? are the four distinct yet memorable nominations in the Best Factual Entertainment category, whilst The Inbetweeners, Outnumbered and The Thick of It make up Best Comedy/Entertainment, proving that British sitcoms are still in rude health in the process. And in what proves to be the most diverse category, One and Other, Sky Arts Theatre Live!, The Take and Ross Kemp Returns to Afghanistan represent some of the high points in non-terrestrial broadcasting last year, with the four contending for the Best Multichannel Programme award.
