Directors UK, formerly DPRS, was launched in June 2008 as the single voice for film and television directors in the UK. The organisation is both a collecting society for the distribution of secondary rights payments to directors, and the campaigning body seeking to protect and enhance the creative, economic and contractual rights of directors in the UK.   As Directors UK we also aim to create a community in which British directors can meet, discuss and exchange ideas.

The goals of Directors UK are:

  • To achieve radical improvements in UK directors’ status, working and creative conditions, rights and fees.
  • To develop effective communication between the organisation and its membership, as well as among the members themselves.
  • To establish and protect the director's right to remuneration for all forms of exploitation to their work.
  • To secure fair income for members for the exploitation of their rights as authors of their films/programmes.
  • To become recognised advocates of excellence for the craft of direction.
  • To form close working relationships with international directors’ organisations.

Directors UK has an established negotiating role with broadcasters, producers and individual companies, both on a one-to-one basis and collectively through the Directors Forum.   We also have agreements with over 20 collecting societies throughout Europe.

Directors UK is a non-profit making organisation, led by an elected Management Board, themselves directors, with experience across a wide range of genres.  The Board meets regularly and supports Directors UK’s permanent staff who monitor and organise the collecting and distribution of funds, campaigning activities and events.  We also employ specialist media and copyright lawyers.
