Why You Should Register With the DPRS Unless
you register with the DPRS you cannot receive monies due to
you. A recent campaign by the DPRS (in collaboration with
the DGGB and BECTU) has succeeded in winning an annual payment
from British Broadcasters to compensate directors if their
works are repeated or sold. DPRS has devised a scheme for
administering payments to individual directors (UK
Distribution Scheme). To benefit, you must
be registered with the Society.
The DPRS monitors transmissions on over 60 European channels
to check whether members’ work is shown and processes
programme information provided by British Broadcasters. To
collect these payments, you (and your works) need to be registered
with the Society.
Ongoing campaigns seek to win directors improved contractual
and moral rights. The more directors who join, the
stronger the Society becomes and the better the chances that
we can improve the director’s position.
The DPRS is a non profit-making organisation. However, effective
from January 1st 2007 there is a one-off registration fee
of £75 + VAT. Additionally there is a management fee
on all distributions. The latter is currently set at 15% for
overseas collections and 10% for payments under the UK Distribution
Scheme.
Contact the DPRS immediately for details of how to register.
